As a part of the worldbuilding project, students are required to craft a 5-7 pages long essay reaserching on political, social, cultural, technological, environmental, economic, and other topics the student selected. The student will learn to gather, narrow, evaluate, and organize sources to support the argument and reasonably address different viewpoints they encountered in their research.
I wrote my essay on the controversial topic, regarding “whether AI could create Art”. Through this essay, I investigated resources and articles on AI generated art and their impact on the actual creative industry and elaborated my own ideas. We incorporated our essay into visual works in Digital Media, which is the Surreal Composition Project. My world-building project has elements related to AI and the future but not which controls which. The power between the two reaches a very weird balance. The world seems to be developed, but it is emptier than ever before; parts of what seems to be important are lost, the same as the people living there. Therefore, I used very monotone colors for my project, picking post-modern and futuristic architecture as inspiration and elements. Then, combine them together in Photoshop and use the blur effect to create a realistic visual effect.
It is a great opportnity to practice Photoshop skills through actual practice, embedding my ideas through digita mediums.

Funny images
Students are required to use Photoshop naturally combining two different pictures together and produce a new funny picture. My two funny images are both about cats, the first one is sitting in a ice cream bowl and the other one is in front of a Minecraft background with the hitting effect.
I really value the mask-making shortcut key (long press option key); I think it is very important in photo editing, design, and even art-making in Photoshop. Also, the quick selection tool is very useful for selecting things; I often use a quick selection brush to adjust the outlines.

Implement general oncepts and techniques regarding how effects are created within After Effects include but are not limited to Repeating animated lines with varying shapes, Star bursts with tapered lines, Animated custom zip lines, Animated trim paths on text, Bubbles with SFXs, Audio Spectrum.
Multi-Layered Art Project
The Multi-layered Art Project is a four parted project including physical piece and video production through various programs including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and After Effects.
My inspiration for my lightbox came from our worldbuilding, which is a cyberpunk Sci-fi related to the use of AI and humanity. We wish to convey the idea that it is the purpose and method of how we use AI the issue but not the tool itself. It is very relevant to the current world with the vast development of AI technology and the expanding fear of being replaced in a career. My viewpoint is that we should embrace such efficient technology and use it as our own, fully unleashing the creative potential we hold as humans within our humanity.
Thus, I incorporate a huge iris shape in the background, representing humanity, and geometric shapes of buildings to represent the technologies. White and red light are placed at different angles to show the juxtaposition of humanity and technology in our world-building and in our society. I’m very proud of how the iris and buildings turned out for my project, the geometric shapes and organic forms blended very well, creating a unique layered 3D effect. Producing a 3D video in After Effects is challenging but easier than I expected, I think it could be a very useful skill in the future. Being able to use Illustrator and After Effects is crucial for future careers in the creative industry.

In Design we further investigate creative practice with watercolor, product design, movie poster design and more, gaining technical skills in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

This piece is a combination of traditional and digital art by illustrating the black line design of our names in Adobe Illustrator then fill the color in using watercolor.

Product Triptych
My main product is a perfume, followed by two pieces of merchandise – a body lotion and a candle with the same fragrance. I chose to do perfume because I have always wanted to design a perfume brand and its overall aesthetic; the selection of two shades of purple, dominated by dark violet and golden yellow, gave a visual impression of a luxury perfume brand.
I first drafted my logo and turned it into an actual logo in Illustrator, then applied it to labels for my merchandise, which have different size requirements. I followed my color palette for a united and signature aesthetic. However, they didn’t seem to be united because the background color I used for the candle was too different from the other two. Therefore, I changed it to medium purple to show consistency. Finally, I placed my finished label on the mockups through Plactit.com. The completed mockups were then assembled onto the same canvas in Photoshop.
