Music

I play violin and I have tried composing, although I find composing really difficult. Here are my favorite compositions.

String Quartet for 3 Violins and Cello

This was my first time composing for someone other than myself. I was invited to compose something for a fundraising event for my elementary school, but because of COVID, we could not perform in person. This was my first time compiling a group performance that was recorded separately, and it was difficult. Because the other players are younger than me, I am not including the video of the performance. February to April 2020

Ode to Costco

I wrote and produced this song in Junior Year for my Explorations (Junior Final) project. It is a comedy pop song with a hint of capitalism condemnation, and I hope you find it fun. June 2020

Leafy Ride for Minecraft Noteblock

My friends and I had a really long railway between our base and the nearest village. The railway took about 50 seconds to cross so I wrote a short and sweet piece to accompany the ride. The instruments used are the noteblocks in Minecraft: placing wood planks for the bass notes and dirt blocks for the treble notes. It was fun to compose for such a limited range (only a couple of octaves for one instrument) and for such a fun reason. I also built it in Survival Mode, no cheats. I used redstone and redstone repeaters to time the music correctly and make it so that it plays when you dispense a minecart. The video is my screen recording of the game. Summer 2020

Falling Underwater

This was a test for SynthV, a software that I was planning on using for my Zenith project. At the end, I found a software closer to what I wanted, though. I used Photoshop and After Effects to create the images. January 2021

Garden of Eden

I wrote and produced this song for my Zenith (Senior Final) project. I used Piapro Studio (free trial) to program the vocaloid Hatsune Miku. This song is slightly unfinished because my free trial ran out of time. I used ZBrush, Substance painter, Maya, Photoshop, and After Effects to create the graphics. May 2021

Here is a presentation explaining my process learning how to use Piapro Studio and learning how to tune the vocaloid, but skip to 9:16 if you just want to watch the final product.

Animation

Tomomochi

One of our projects in Junior year was to create a narrative animation. I worked with Vivian Huang and Nick Ng to create out project. My portion of the animation was from 0:27 to the 0:58.

Documentary Animation

I made this short animation (short, but it took me many hours to make) to go with audio of my mom explaining what happened to her dad during the Cultural Revolution in China.

Documentary Animation, May 2020

Chef Benny Puppet

In our Junior year, our class made puppets to create stop motion animations. I’m really proud of mine.

3D Model and Animation – Poppy the Pug

To learn how to use ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Maya, we created characters which we animated. Mine is Poppy the Pug.

Chaad the Chihuahua is my friend Vivian’s character.

Here are some basic walk, run, and jump animations.

My most recent animation project was for my Zenith project, but you can see that above.
