What Is Zenith?

Zenith is the final opportunity for Freestyle seniors to go out with a boom and show what they have learned in the past two years through a personal self-made project. Zenith can be interpreted however as one’s mind can allow and the outcome is dozens of unique interpretations of what being self-made is. For my project, I decided to sew a book by hand and from scratch, from folding the papers and stitching them together, to binding the covers. I chose this as I felt like it was the best way to display the creativity and tenacity that I have learned from being in Freestyle by creating a unique item that not many others take into consideration. Choosing this as my final project was a risk I decided to take as I had no prior knowledge of bookbinding, so I was essentially going in blind not knowing what to expect. In the beginning, I only saw bookbinding as just stitching some paper together and calling it a day, but when I discussed my project with Mrs. P, my design teacher who has background experience with bookbinding, I was blown away with how intricate it can get. Learning I needed different types of tools and material I have never heard of made it more daunting than it already was, I was ready, yet anxious.
