Conceptual

Introduction

For the Conceptual Projects, we the juniors are supposed to express our opinions through different medias, such as poetry, music, art, and animation for me. We are able to learn how to use many different modern equipments such as DSLR Cameras, Tascam Audio Recorders, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, Avid Pro Tools, WordPress, and Google Apps. I loved this unit a lot even though there was a lot of work to do. I got to learn more about modern technology and how to use them. Before this unit, I wanted to learn skills of editing a video, produce music…etc. But I didn’t have the chance and the equipments to fulfill that. Luckily, I learned those skills in this unit at Freestyle. Therefore, I tried to make every one of my projects to be as perfect as possible with the unique chance of learning I had.

Poems

Show

During the poetry production, I enjoyed learning how to use an actual fancy recorder, how to edit a video. Writing a poem was somewhat difficult for me as well. I am not a poetic person so I spent a lot of time on getting ideas and putting my opinions in to words. But I was satisfied with my final poem. It was SUPER fun during editing the video since I had always wanted to learn that skill. Even though I turned my video late(oof), I am glad that I gained some new knowledge and produce a pretty decent result.

Photo Haiku Photo and Video

The very first project we worked on in English and Digital Media was the Photo Haiku Project. In English, we were supposed to create a haiku that demonstrates a mood with an experience. Then we take a photo that presents the haiku metaphorically and edit it into a video in Digital Media.

Editing the Haiku Video with Premiere Pro

During the Photo Haiku Photo and Video Production, I enjoyed learning using Photoshop and Premiere Pro. I was very excited about learning using Premiere Pro because I had always wanted to learn how to edit videos before joining Freestyle. Even though everything was new to me and I was also stressed about the deadline, I am really happy that I acknowledge new skills of technology.

Elements & Principle of Art

For this assignment, I was supposed to learn about the Elements and Principles of Art and create a presentation about it. I was also expected to understand how to utilize the elements and principles when I do art work.

Animation

In animation, we used different type of materials and techniques to produce many types of animation. We created zoetropes, exquisite corpse, flip books, direct technique, and phenakistoscopes.

Zoetrope

For the zoetrope assignment, we drew 12 frames and connected them together to create a small animation. I am pretty satisfied with the final result I have because the audience can see the character’s movement.

Exquisite Corpse

For the Exquisite Corpse Project, each person in Junior Animation drew 48 frames which is 2 seconds. Then we put all of the frames together to produce the two minutes video below. Enjoy! (My part starts at about 1:10 :))

Flip Book

The Flip Book Project was the most tiring but also the most fun project to make. Each student were required to draw at least 96 frames, which is 8 seconds, to produce a short animation that demonstrate an emotion. I drew a short story about a scared boba which is being chased by a straw.

Direct Technique

For the Direct Technique Project, each student was required to use to types of techniques to produce two short animation. I used paint and paper cutting and produce two short videos below.

Phenakistoscope

The Phenakistoscope Project is the very first project all Junior Animation students worked on. We cut out a a “wheel” and drew 16 little frames to create a short animation with Photoshop. Both the picture and GIF below are edited with Photoshop.

Reflection

I enjoyed animation so so so so much. I learned so many techniques in this class even though it was a lot of work. I enjoyed producing different projects while chatting with other students. I’m so happy that I joined Freestyle to have this unique opportunity to learn animation, which is a thing that I have been wanted to do for since I was a kid.
