Narrative

The narrative unit was the biggest unit for seniors in Freestyle. There were big assignments for me in Digital Media, English, and in Film.

English

In English I was in a group with Ayan, Alex, and Dragos assigned to make a treatment for a narrative that we would pitch. We came up with a story called “Route 666.” The story is about a southern trucker who stops at a rest stop on route 66, only to find that it is a portal to the underworld. We had a lot of fun brainstorming the story.

Digital Media

In Digital Media I designed a lightbox to go with my Narrative. Called Route 666, the lightbox involved multiple layers and shows the river sixty styx underneath route 66.

Film

In film, my partner Lucy and I filmed a short narrative called Waking up to Murder. We had been working on it since October that school year. After months of screenwriting, storyboarding, shot lists, and constant revision we started to film. Our film was about a girl who wakes up to become on the run from the police for murder and her quest to find out the truth. We had a lot of fun working on the project and we felt good about the culmination of months and months of work.

Reflection

The narrative unit was the unit where I grew the most at Freestyle. I had to learn to be organized and how to pace out work across multiple months. I had to learn to collaborate with others and balance strengths and weaknesses. I had to brainstorm creative ideas. And in the end, I just had to sit down and get things done. I am proud of the work that I was able to accomplish, but most importantly, I am proud of the friendships that I made with others in Freestyle.
