Showcase

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my showcase webpage. Here, I will be presenting both my film highlight reel, which captures some of my favorite/best moments from over two years of production, as well as my Junior documentary, and the creative process that made it possible.

But first, I want to give you a bit of insight into who I am. As you may already know, my name is Yhali Sheba. I am 18 years old and was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. I moved to the States when I was around the age of three, and sunny California has been my home ever since. Throughout my life, I have always been creatively driven, and have been producing film content since a young age. Prior to my two years at Freestyle, I was enrolled at GMSTV for three years, which was my middle school’s elective film program. But even before that, I had been filming and editing youtube videos since the age of 7. It’s safe to say that film has become an engrained aspect of my life, and I look forward to taking those same creative values along with me as I pursue product design as a career at the University of Oregon.

Now with that being said, I would like to gladly present my Showcase videos. I hope you enjoy what you see!

Documentary Showcase

The junior documentary was the most eye-opening project I have made as a film student. Working with Anne Shachal and having the one-of-a-kind opportunity to hear her story has changed my perspective on life and has allowed me to view the world around me through the lens of gratitude. However, the production of this film was more complicated than one might expect. In this showcase video, I describe the process of how our film was made, the roadblocks we encountered, how we got over them, and how it helped me grow as a film student and an individual.

Highlight Reel

The highlight reel is a compilation of my favorite film projects that I have worked on during my time at Freestyle. Every project featured in this reel had its own creative journey, allowing me to better my communication skills and grow as a film student. It was challenging to fit two years of content into a minute-long video, but I think it perfectly captures who I am as a filmmaker, and how I have used this medium of communication to express my values.

Conclusion

Overall, my improvement as a film student has been immeasurable during my time at Freestyle. When I came into the film production class, I firmly believed that they had nothing to teach me and that the next two years would be a walk in the park. Because of this, I was somewhat close-minded. and didn’t accept criticism. However, Mr. Taylor very quickly showed me how wrong I was, and how much room there was for growth. Working with him and my fellow classmates has opened my mind to how I can better use film as a means of expressing myself. In this process, I have become a better story writer and planner, a more well-versed cinematographer, and a more capable editor, which are all skills that will serve me well in the future. Even though I don’t plan to pursue it in college, film will undoubtedly continue to be a very substantial and meaningful part of my life in the future. Whether I choose to incorporate it as a part of my hobbies, integrate it into another line of work, or use it to tell a new story, film will make more appearances time and time again in my life. For me, where there is creativity, there is a need for film.

Thank you for taking the time to review my showcase webpage, and I truly hope you were able to enjoy my work.

As ever, – Yhali Sheba.
