How did I Make a Book?

I already knew we were going to be making a book when we started our documentary unit, but I was not expecting it to take so long.

There were three main parts to our book that I needed to do; using the text from my research eassy, using pictures that I took, and selecting colors and patterns to use. Since I started my book before I had finished my reasearch paper, I started out editting pictures and placing them within InDesign, the program I used to make the books. Placing pictures was easy, but when I then tried to add colors to the book, it turned into chaos. Some colors didn't match, some didn't feel right, and some were just plain ugly. It took a few days before I was able to select colors that worked. Then came the patterns. Not only did I have to put in patterns that were interesting, I had to make sure they complimented the pictures as well having space for my future text.

Research essay completed, I inserted it into our book, but unfortunetly for me, not all the text fit in the places I wanted them. I had to go back and resize pictures, patterns, etc. In the end, the book didn't turn out half bad. Sure there are some alignment issues or patterns that didn't connect well (curse you Indesign and your guidelines!) but all the content and pictures are placed as I intended them, which as always a plus.
