I've always been interested in metal detecting. I've always been fascinated by the people I see on the beach sweeping their big black detectors across the sand, heads bowed seemingly indifferent to all their surroundings, completely focused on finding treasure.

The first reason could obviously be the money. However, there can't really be that much money out on the beach, especially with so many, relatively speaking, people out there searching. And what if you did find something... a treasure chest. Your metal detector would go crazy, and you know there's millions of dollars under the sand right there. What then? It's a public beach and you're about to excavate millions of dollars.

Then I think about why I might do it: I would go if only to walk along the beach, and maybe find some pocket change. But after researching, it turns out either the person rarely even acknowledges the beach, in the words of one man "I'm here for the sand."

All in all, I have no clue why I'd walk around a beach waving a metal detector in hope of finding pocket change.
