Crystal White Wine: A Senior Product Label by Ari Soewarso-Rivera (2020)

My design went through a lot of changes from its inception. I started out wanting to create a white wine with a label that conveyed a mystic forest feeling. I decided to name it “Snow White - Oaked Chardonnay” and did my original label design in my sketchbook. Essentially, it was an image of a forest with the product name in the top right corner. After receiving external feedback I realized that my product didn’t match the vibe of white wine, which is seen as something fresh and cold. So I changed my approach and tried a design with cooler colors and a sleek feel. The font feels very expensive and elegant which adds to the price of my bottle. There is also a nice contrast between the frailness of the crystal and the boldness of the white. I used Illustrator to create my label.

The hardest part of creating this design was the fonts. It was very difficult for me to find fonts that were elegant and professional but not stale. I eventually settled on one main font and adjusted the kerning (which means the space between the letters) until it looked really elegant. My inspiration for this was the Vogue Magazine logo. The serif font gives off a very regal and expensive feeling, which is what a wine bottle should be. Creating the emblem was challenging but enjoyable. I used the pen tool to lay various shapes over each other and changed their value to create a crystalline effect.

This project taught me a lot about marketing and label creation. As an artist, I don’t often cater to others and instead make art for myself. This was a good exercise in creating for a specific audience and letting go of some of the ideas I preferred. Instead, I learned to see through the eyes of your clients and deliver a product that ultimately pleases them. Related website
