Honey Jar Label Mockup Triptych: A Senior Product Label by Jessica Angeles (2020)

For this assignment, I originally thought to design a honey label. My original idea had connected Winnie the Pooh with honey, since he’s always eating honey with his honey jar in hand. An issue is that Winnie the Pooh can’t be used because of copyright issues. Instead I went for a jar which would be easier to use. I made the background of the label a sky blue since it is almost the complement to the colour of honey which is a yellow/golden colour. The font I chose helps with making it more appealing to the audience I had intended which was for children, while also giving adults a nostalgic feeling.

Something that I would have done differently is, I would make sure that the jar looked more like a honey jar, than just a basic jar. Using Photoshop I changed the original brown paper top using the colour replacement tool, to change it to the same blue on the label giving it a more cohesive look. What I learned about designing a label for a target audience is that you must design it to appeal to them. An adult approach requires something more sophisticated, while if you’re marketing to children, a cartoon-ish approach is more appropriate.

The additional items that I chose for my triptych are a mug with a tea strainer, since tea is regularly paired with honey, and a tote-bag because consumers would carry it around peaking the interest of anyone who sees the brand. Related website
