In this assignment, I chose to design a food label for a honey jar. I like honey; I used to add honey in milk to make sweet milk. It is very delicious. So when I saw the examples given on the assignment, I decided to design a honey label. In my first draft of design in my sketchbook, I draw the details of the honey and the decorations specifically. Then, when I started to draw it in Photoshop, it’s still hard to draw detail using my own skills, so I changed my style to a simple kind of color composition. My color scheme is yellow, dark blue and green. For my label, I chose a gentle and elegant font to put on it because my colors are not very bright but kind of plain, so this font will be more suitable than others for my label.
I also created my own brand ‘Turtle’s Honey’. To highlight the name ‘Turtle’, I decided to draw a turtle that is swimming in a honey ocean. So I drew layers of undulating honey and made it like the ocean surface. At first I did not read through the assignment requirement so I did my label in Photoshop, but it is an Illustrator assignment. My teacher suggested I try to load all the layers into Illustrator and fix the problems. After researching the ways on my own, I imported all the layers separately successfully. For the dark blue in my color scheme, I added it at the end because it is too simple if there is only green and yellow, so I separated the picture to night and day, and colored the night part with dark blue.
In this assignment, I learned that the font is very important in a food label. It should be attractive and big enough for people to notice it and want to buy the product. I chose the additional product in my triptych because the picture of the handbag is very elegant on the background, and I like it very much.
