Bat-Eared Croctopuscaney: A Junior Creature by Vikash Kumar (2021)

In my flash fiction story, "We'll Make It", the story sets around a teenager named Xavier attempting to make it to a date on time while being stranded on the mountain. Having a calm, borderline chaotic, yet anxious mindset with fears of stepping outside of his comfort zone, he challenges himself to complete a life-risking task to get down the mountain on time. In the Narrative Creature, Using Adobe Illustrator, I created a hybrid creature in which I believe represents Xavier's dynamic nature.

Using Adobe Illustrator, I started by picking out five animals that each played an important role in displaying Xavier's personalities. I chose the Bat-Ear Fox, an Octopus, a Monkey, a Crocodile, and an Eagle. The Bat-Ear Fox has a shy characteristic, with foxes often lacking social skills, they lean away from the interaction, which Xavier tends to do. The Monkey and the Octopus play the role of calmness, with these two animals often being relaxed. The Crocodile and Eagle play the role of Chaos that Xavier holds within himself. The background is set on a trail in a forest within the mountains, where my story takes place. I used a linear perspective to represent the one direction and limited options Xavier has in the story to resolve the problem. Some problems I encountered during the process were tracing all the animals into one object instead of creating separate layers and tracing each animal. This set me back as I would have to start from scratch. However, I found this project to be successful as I joined Design late into the year, and was able to create a product I am proud of.
