Though it took me a while to figure out the best way to create a mandala, I had a really great time once I got the hang of it. My first two mandalas were basically groups of squiggly lines that eventually formed a really beautiful shape. I had a really fun time even figuring out how everything worked. It was nice to use illustrator for a project for the first time in a while, and this to me was a really great re-introduction to the program. I enjoyed the black and white one more than the colored one because the shapes blended into each other as opposed to the colored ones where all the shapes had to be separate. I enjoyed both, but overall the black and white one was my favorite.

In terms of the overarching question, the one I chose to submit has imagery from all my favorite albums. These include: Twelve Nudes by Ezra Furman, Awaken, My Love! By Childish Gambino, Revolution Girl Style Now! By Bikini Kill, Wasteland, Baby by Hozier, From the Desk of Mr. Lady by Le Tigre, the 2015 EP by G.L.O.S.S and Dookie by Green Day. Each layer had a different set of images from the album covers. For example, I included the striking eyes from the model on Awaken, My Love!, the heart and banner from Revolution (including the initials of the album on the banner) and the mushroom cloud from Dookie. Music is one of the most important things to me. It’s the way I express myself and the way I process emotions. Each of these records represent a different emotional point for me so I wanted to honor them in this personal mandala project. Related website
