Cartala: A Senior Black and White Mandala Design by Vinh Le (2021)

For My black and white mandala, when producing it, I thought of putting a side of my personality through the portrayal of cartoons. Throughout the mandala, you are able to see a bunch of geometric lines and circles with other pictures. What sets me apart from production is the gradual decrease in density when creating the piece. As you can see, in the middle of the mandala, it is very dense, but as it goes outwards, it gets less dense with more pictures. The density in the middle represents how our personality makes up most of who we are.

The thing I valued the most when it comes to making this mandala, is by expressing myself and my personality. As a kid, I used to be obsessed with drawing cartoons and doodling in class. In some parts of the mandala, you can see some of these pictures that I drew. I decided to do this to explore a part of me in the past, and include it in a picture that i'll remember for a lifetime. When it comes to my personality, I decided to express myself with geometric lines.

The thing that I learned about myself was that I am almost a perfectionist when it comes to drawing and designing. When I saw myself draw outside of lines, I always got a sense that I was doing something wrong, and how it did not feel right. It was almost like I had OCD when creating this drawing. But this sense of being a perfectionist also is a part of my whole. Even when I park my car, when it is crooked, I can never get out until it is straight. It almost applies here. When i mess up and draw outside a line, i can never continue, until it is perfect Related website
