Garden Snail: A Junior Narrative Diptych by Hannah Kirn (2011)
John had always been a picky eater. That only made matters worse when, by chance, he discovered a live snail crawling over his salad. Naturally horrified, he carefully avoided leafy greens the rest of his life, even into adulthood.
Now John is older, a business man with an important job in a big company. He finds himself a representative of the company at an important meeting at a fancy restaurant, a meeting that could make or break his career. By chance, the waitress comes over to serve him the very thing he has been avoiding- salad. Horrified, he pauses before making the decision to keep his composure and face his fear or to potentially make a fool of himself and the company by complaining.
