Desire to Obtain: A Junior Narrative Diptych by Nikita Nagpal (2011)

In my diptych on the left side, I have captured a young child's hand that is trying to play with the little fishes of the fish tank but is obstructed by the glass of the fish tank that comes in the way of him getting what he wants. And on the right side, there is a man surrounded by a load of items who has a bill for his credit card and he must find out what to do with it.

The young child has always wanted something but his family has never been able to afford it. The fishes in the tank that he wanted to play with were not given to him since the glass tank had come in the way which represents his family's income barrier. When he grows up and gets a credit card, he goes out of control. The new power that he gets with the seemingly inconsequential credit card transactions, he buys anything and everything that he wasn't able to get. He becomes a hoarder because of his inexplicable need to obtain all these times. But his actions result in dire consequences when he receives his credit card bill and has to choose whether to keep all the items and find alternate ways to pay off the bill or whether he should return the items that he had wanted all his life.
