Comfort: A Senior Comic Strip by Sophie Ho (2012)

In this comic, a brother is trying to console his crying sister. He doesn't exactly know why she's upset, but he tries his best to cheer her up. First, he offers gifts- a stuffed unicorn and later a piece of pie. She remains upset, until he realizes suddenly what he should do- give her a hug. Cheered by this simple act of comfort, his sister stops crying and all is well. I wanted to keep the comic simple and flat- there are no shadows and the colors are fairly primary. Also, I hoped to keep a somewhat basic drawing style- big, thick lines and expressive faces with minimal detail. Overall, I'm fairly pleased with the result. I hoped to get across the idea that the simplest acts of love can often be the best ones people can do.`
