Shattered Opportunities: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Gabrielle Makower (2012)

In this piece, I am trying to communicate how I sometimes have trouble speaking my mind, which leads to my being ignored. I often have ideas that I have trouble expressing. The broken megaphone symbolizes the inability to speak out for myself. The megaphone in my illustration is surrounded by glitter, which represents my good ideas that I am unable to share due to my trouble speaking my mind. The footsteps symbolize being ignored. Since I can't share these ideas, people ignore me and walk away.

This was my first time using Illustrator. The pen tool is one thing you need to know how to operate in order to use illustrator. The pen tool is a tricky tool that I have gotten better at. The most challenging aspect of my project was the glitter, which is composed of many small diamonds and swirls. Using the pen tool on each and every piece of glitter was a little draining, however I believe it was worth it for the final result! I also made the background black and white, to make the bright and colorful images pop.
