The Power of a Compliment: A Senior Comic Strip by Monica Hsu (2013)

During our Narrative Unit at my second year at Freestyle Academy, we were assigned to create a short story and display it in a 5 panel comic strip. I chose to feature a story about an insecure jellyfish and how a power of a compliment changed her life.

I created this piece using Adobe Illustrator CS6. Comparing this piece with my graphic design artwork from last year, I see a huge improvement in the cleanliness of my presentation. Through this piece I learned that simplicity in graphic design can be extremely effective. Before I struggled with thousands of layers in Illustrator, thinking that more was better. With this piece, I discovered that with a few key elements, my artwork could look stronger and cleaner.
