Inner Rage: A Junior Self-Portrait Diptych by Gerardo Galicia (2013)

In my diptych I wanted to show how anger can destroy the things you love. I wanted to show how even the most mellow people still contain rage deep inside. I’m not trying to say you shouldn't be angry, that would be unhealthy, what I'm trying to say you shouldn't let you rage build up. Sooner or later everyone has their moments where they just lose it, and if you have anger built up it could end up hurting the ones you love for even the smallest things.

On the left side of my diptych I shot a picture of an angel looking at a rose’s with fire behind him. The angel represents the goodness in people. The angel is looking at the roses which represent the things we all hold dear to us, or in other words, the things we love. The fire behind the angel represents the hidden anger we have inside all of us.

On the right side of my diptych I shot a picture of roses under the fire of a candle. On the left side of my diptych I used the roses to represent the things, and people we love. I used them to show how when we do let our anger out we hurt the things we love, and that’s where the fire comes in. At first I was going to set all of the roses on fire but after setting one on fire I realized rose burns way too fast for me to get the shot so I ended up just putting them over the fire of a candle.
