Through the Glass: A Junior Self-Portrait Illustration by Elizabeth Leung (2013)

For my illustration, I used a metaphor of a rigged game at the carnival. The idea was based off of the line in my personal essay, ''Giant stuffed animals dangle upon row of booths, promising easy prizes.'' This line demonstrates my tendency to sacrifice everything for an uncertain prize.

I am represented by the pink ball aiming straight at the glass bottle, as I tend to shoot straight for the goal that I desire. Like the ball, I ignore all warnings of the risks of my decisions, the the blue and pink balls lying far away from the glass bottle on the wooden table, and only see the positive ending. Everything around the glass bottle is blurred, since I do not see anything besides the prize rabbit laying in front of me. I do not even consider the possibility of failing, I only see possible success. Once the ball is thrown, there is no taking it back. Similarly, I cannot take back my decision after I have carried it out, forcing me to deal with the consequences of my decisions.
