The Boy Steven: A Narrative Character Portrait by Dean Gustafson (2014)

My character portrait depicts the main character, Steven. Throughout my story, Steven shows hope to prevail no matter the circumstance and this is what I was trying to convey in my portrait. Although he is shut down and his crush does not accept his flowers, he is still hopeful for the future. To show this theme of hope, I made the flower retain its original colors while still looking vibrant, but I also changed the saturation to be lower so that my model to show that he is sad not only hopeful for the future. I wanted the flower to be a sort of beacon of hope that Steven is looking at, and I think I accomplished that goal.
