The Jock: A Narrative Character Portrait by Gerardo Galicia (2014)

My character is a high school hotshot who believes in keeping the week in their place. Like most stereotypical jock types he's able to excel in sports but not at school. His selfishness makes him resent anyone who doesn't acknowledge his strength and skill at football. Anyone willing to call him out on his weakness, such as his academics, is guaranteed a brutal beat down

When I set out to take this photo and capture this moment I wanted to show his strength. I grabbed an old football and took out most of the air to give the illusion that he's able to squish the football. My model would also need a way to demonstrate that he was on the football team so he wore a football jersey. The smirk on his face is to show the egotistical look of a jock.
