Al Schwoerer: A Senior Profile Portrait by Emily Markman (2014)

This photograph is of my godfather, Al Schwoerer, or as I call him, Uncle Al. He is a retired man who worked various jobs, like being a R&D tech, a policeman for the port of Redwood City, and worked in the post office in Redwood City as a carrier and in federal law enforcement within the postal service. He has since continued volunteering in his community, which is what interested me in the first place. Ever since I've known him, he's always been an active man within his neighborhood and hosts many parties with his wife at their home. I learned so much from him during this project, like how fortunate he became in his life and how he is determined to give back to those who he finds less fortunate, like the homeless and those in need. This experience changed the way I look at the world in that I feel it should be everyone's duty to give back to the people in their lives in some way and continue this throughout life. It's important to show those around you that you care about them.
