Robert Freeman: A Senior Profile Portrait by Taylor Houston (2014)

I did my profile project on Mr. Robert Freeman. He was a teacher at Los Altos High School until his retirement last year. Seven years ago, he founded an organization, One Dollar for Life, on the idea that if everyone pitched in just a little bit, this generation of teenagers has the power to produce huge changes in the world. ODFL works to create schools in third world countries with money collected from US high school students. I was intrigued by Mr. Freeman because he is a local teacher, yet he has done truly extraordinary things with his life. He has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and built 41 schools in eight countries. I find Mr. Freeman's goal of showing teenagers that they have the power to create great changes in the world very inspiring.

The profile project was my first Freestyle project, so I grew in many ways while completing this project. I learned how to use all of the equipment for filming and photographing in a very short amount of time. I learned how to use many new Adobe editing tools. And, perhaps most importantly, I learned how to ask complete strangers questions about their life and pull together these interviews into a coherent project that showed the nature of my subject in the truest way possible.
