Sarwat Fahmy: A Senior Profile Portrait by Kaye Yap (2014)

For our senior profile documentary unit, I chose to document the life of Sarwat Fahmy. I have known Sarwat since I was born and he works closely with my father and has been a long time family friend. Sarwat's current job is a land developer, but he was also previously a lawyer, a real estate broker, and was involved in the medical business. Aside from being a highly powerful business man, he also has his own TV show called '' The Law and You'' that airs on local channels, and is the founder and president of the Egypt American Society of the SF Bay Area. What intrigued me about Sarwat, besides his eccentric and boisterous personality, was his interesting stories and memories he had to share about experiences he had 30-50 years ago. He moved from Egypt to America in the early 1970s and through trial and error, found success in the land of opportunity. Through this project, I learned a lot more about Sarwat as a person, rather than just a family friend. I learned his history, his concrete opinions on aspects of life, and how much hard work he had done to get to where he is now. Spending time with Sarwat and getting to know him more made me realize that if I put my mind to it, anything is possible. I learned that there are very few limits in life if you take the time and energy to get what you want.
