Expectation: A Senior Humor or Satire Art Project by Adam Poltorak (2014)

The humor that I incorporated in this photo is caricature. The marionette is exaggerating the expectations that persian parents place on their children. These expectations are a lawyer, doctor, nurse, optometrist and other very highly viewed occupations. The wooden and generic figure has a question mark which exaggerates how the child feels about who they want to be. They feel lost and can't express themselves the way they want. The words ''Lawyer'' and ''Doctor'' are etched into the wooden handles held by a parent to represent the direction that they influence on their kids.

The process of creating the humor artwork was a new experience for me. I decided to completely draw a marionette. I used a variety of shades to give the illusion of three dimensional objects. I started off by outlining an actual picture of a marionette, but the figure and wooden cross were separate photos. I had to combine them in such a way that the perspective looked correct. Simplicity was the main technique I wanted for this art piece. All of this was made possible with the sophisticated brushes and shades in Adobe Photoshop.
