Rosie the Rager: A Senior Humor or Satire Art Project by Lora Maslenitsyna (2014)

My humour piece was based on satirical and ironic themes discussed in my English class. I wanted to create a contemporary version of Rosie the Riveter, so, in my poster, my model is taking a selfie instead of showing off her muscles. I also wanted to give my Rosie more of an activist image than the original, so the selfie is also a symbol of body positivity. I changed the slogan from ''We Can Do It!'' to ''#NoConstructs'' as a play on the popular selfie hashtag ''#NoFilter''. The revised slogan enhances the idea of body positivity in the hopes that people can learn to question our societal constructions of beauty and image.

I used Photoshop to desaturate the photograph of my model, but I saturated her bandana and lips to make the red stand out. I created the banner in Illustrator. It was drawn with the pen tool and given a slight gradient so that the text would stand out more.
