Miranda Lisa: A Senior Humor or Satire Art Project by Sanjana Pandit (2014)

As part of our humor unit for Design, we were assigned to create a piece of art that corresponded with our English presentation. For my English presentation, my group and I did a satire and parody of Miranda Sings, a famous youtube star. This character, Miranda, wears a ton of red lipstick and has a very interesting sense of fashion. She slurs her words and raises her eyebrows a lot, which is what makes her so odd, but somehow funny. Miranda also believes she is the best singer in the world, when in reality, she is awful. The fact that she thinks so highly of herself makes her a humorous character.

For this design piece, my goal was to create humor by blending something serious with one of Miranda's funny expressions. I did this by using the Mona Lisa, which I thought would be perfect because it is a well-known and respected work of art. I first photographed a picture of Gabrielle dressed up as Miranda making a classic Miranda expression. Using Adobe Photoshop CS6, I then traced her face out and pasted it on the Mona Lisa. I was able to blend Gabrielle's face with Mona Lisa's body and make it look legitimately real. Ultimately, I was very happy with the final outcome because I found my piece to be humorous. I really enjoyed this unit and this project because it was so different than any of the other projects at Freestyle.
