Let Me Go: A Junior Conceptual Project by Dasom Chung (2015)

For the fine art portion of my mixed media conceptual piece, I painted vivid watercolors on a mirror to represent mixed views and the desperate need to escape, but having infinite boundaries. I put salt on the watercolor to show the quiet commotion of emotions that can occur with the confusion in the desire to rebel. The red paint is trailing into the vase, narrowly escaping the thick, copper wire. The wire shows restraint from others that are slowly closing its grip on freedom. It makes it difficult to escape its grip despite objections. The vase is representative of confinement, which contains a bundle of string. One of the ends stick out to show the fight against entrapment, and the words on either side of the mirror show desire to rebel and the confusion, both with the same words.

Overall, the piece represents confusion and the desire to rebel in its entirety by not only by using the mirror as a base for the entire piece giving the piece depth and dimensions of infinity, but also by showing different elements and colors to emphasize certain emotions. The red, pink, and orange watercolor emphasizes rebelliousness while the blue, purple, and grey portion shows containment.
