Senior Book Jacket: A Senior Narrative Book Jacket by Christopher Ogaz (2015)

The objective of this unit was to create a short narrative story that inserted dialogue that takes place between two or more characters to advance the plot. Raquel happened to be my main character; she is a 15 year old high school student who lives in Madrid, Spain. School is out for summer, and that means that there is plenty of spare time for Raquel to relax and get plenty of shut-eye. That, of course, all changes when Raquels mother, Alessandra, informs Raquel that she is sending her off to America to stay with her aunt over the summer. Alarmed by her mother's executive decision, Raquel decides that it is time to speak up for herself, and to let her mother know how she feels about this matter, one Raquel felt she had no input on. So, Raquel and her mother find themselves in a passionate quarrel regarding this decision, and Raquel and her mother learn that those you are close to are always with you in your hearts. They also realized that sometimes letting go is the best thing to do.

In my book cover I illustrated one of the most pivotal scenes in the entire story: the scene preceding the moment when Raquel's mother makes amends to Raquel. This is when Raquel and her mother accept that they won't always be with each other, and that sometimes it is time to let go. On the book cover, I decided to keep the style slightly cartoon-ish, using Adobe Illustrator, a vector art program, to create my book cover. I also wanted to emphasize the deep meaning in my story without using a realistic photo, because the conflict in this story is powerful enough that vector art would actually highlight my plot.
