Shift Mindset: A Senior Amplified Art Project by Ethan Leikach (2015)

For my amplified piece I took a picture of a flower and layered it with my zen tangle at a decreased opacity for the background. I then erased part of the zen tangle, replacing it with my free write word art, which was shift. In addition to that I put some color and an extra layer of of text on top of shift to make it stand out more. All four corners of my piece had the mandala jutting out of them. To finish the image I took a sentence from my free write, split it in half, and then placed one part on top and the other on the bottom.

The inspiration for this image came from one of the meditating sessions we had during this unit. Letting my mind wander brought a lot of new thoughts into perspective and allowed me to go with whatever artistic direction surfaced first. Most of the meaning I found in the piece, however, comes from the word shift by it's placement with relation to both the zen tangle and split sentence. Another thing to note is that the zen tangle isn't completely erased around the shift and that the word itself is neither vertical nor horizontal in it's entirety.
