Tony Huang: A Senior Profile Portrait by Kevin Huang (2015)

My profile star is Tony Huang, a businessman and Vice President of Development at the company, Looq. He is usually very busy with work but always finds time to pursue his passions. Tony Huang loves to stay active, going to the gym at least once a day, and playing table tennis and golf with his friends. He also has a particular interest in wine and an appreciation for the arts. He likes to listen to slow and melodic tunes, often preferring music of the classical genre.

When taking this shot, I wanted the photo to focus on him and him only, so I chose a very plain background. I had him dress in a suit and tie to show how he looks on the average work day. The main struggle that I had to deal with was getting the lighting right for the photograph. I took the photo indoors so I didn’t have to deal with the sunlight but there were windows in close proximity that let unwanted light in. In the end, I think the portrait came out really well after some editing in Photoshop. Initially, I cropped the photo using the rule of thirds and added a vignette and a slight blur to the photo, then put on a cooling filter. I also added some contrast, changed the brightness levels, and adjusted the curves.
