Lori Halliday: A Senior Profile Portrait by Celine Do (2015)

Lori Halliday is a equestrian therapist as well as a wife, mother, and friend. She created a program called Horse and Heart which is a program that is located on her ranch. The program is focused on helping those with mental illnesses. With horses comes another effective form of therapy that many find useful. Lori advocates for a strong body and soul by using inner energy to heal oneself. She has impacted the Santa Cruz county with her program because so many people are helped by the horses as a form of therapy.

The shot was difficult to capture because she was always moving around. It was hard to track her down as she was caring of the horse and talking to her volunteers and students. Finally, I was able to take a photograph of her in front of the horse’s pen. She was in the shade so in post-production I had to edit by lightening the part where her face is shaded. The worst part of the photograph is that the fence seems to be running through her head. There was nothing I could do to fix that so I cropped it in a way that made the main focus, Lori, very obvious. I really liked that I was able to take her portrait in front of something that relates to her organizations. Overall, I was satisfied with this piece because Lori looks content and beautiful, as she should be portrayed.
