Just Data: A Senior Narrative Book Jacket by Rachael Kiselev (2016)

The story I wrote in English is a building block for a larger story. It falls in the genre of cyberpunk, a combination of science and futuristic technology set in a dystopian society. Key features of cyberpunk motifs are woven in, such as a corrupt major corporation, a damaged world, and technology beyond our current year. JUST DATA focuses on a hacker, Corinne, living in the near future, who is releasing a new virus into cyberspace, corrupting files from a large corporation's immersive technology. The story ends on a cliffhanger, but one that leaves room for subsequent writing. My favorite part about this story is the minute detailing woven into the world I created for Corinne, and I can't wait to continue the story.

Creating this book jacket was fun, albeit challenging. The hardest part became sizing my pages to fit the template correctly. Another challenge I faced was deciding how to render buildings. In the end, I went with an easy design as I had spent upwards of two weeks of classtime trying to construct the one element. I had no problems with any of the written parts of the assignment. Writing fake praise for my work ended up being kind of fun! I enjoyed working with the portrait photo of myself, and creating a fake backstory to go along with it. I think that after this project, I have a newfound respect for those who design book jackets- I see now how difficult and time consuming it is.
