Are You Still There?: A Senior Narrative Book Jacket by Rayna Mahnken (2016)

Martha Brinchetser refuses to believe what the police are telling her. The officer on the end of the line claims that Harold, her husband, is the prime suspect in eighteen recent homicides. As she hangs up the phone, Martha agrees to a plan to catch her husband and bring him into custody. However, she has no intention to go through with the plan. Not until she finds evidence.
Martha searches her entire house, feeling very frazzled and disoriented. The small oddities in her house stand out, but most of them seem inconsequential; things like a lost earring, and Harold's misplaced medication. She writes it off to her nerves. Her Harold would never do anything as atrocious as kill eighteen people. After all, Harold has never done much of anything in his life.
As her investigation continues, Martha's mental state deteriorates. She is overcome with anxiety, and begins to hear the unnatural conversation on the phone again in her head.
''Hello, Missus Brinchester?''
''This is she. Who am I talking to?''
''This is the City Police Department.'' Even though it was just a memory, Martha feels a chill.

As the conversation runs through her head, Martha opens the safe in Harold's office. She finds a picture of when they were younger, newly wed in college, as well as the usual files you would expect to see- birth certificates, social security numbers. Martha notices, as she's closing the safe, that there is something hidden under some papers in the back. She reaches back and removes the papers.
Beneath them is a single knife. As she pulls it out, she remembers it belonging to Harold, and tells herself that it was put there for sentimental reasons. As Martha notices something left on the knife, where blade meets hilt, the curtains close behind her. She whirls, surprised to see Harold.
By the time the police arrive at the Brinchester home, Harold is nowhere to be found. All that's left in the office is a growing pool of blood from beneath the desk...
''Missus Brinchester? Are you there?''
