Untitled: A Junior Conceptual Transport Project by Joshua Stukenborg (2017)

In my photo I have a stone bunny as the main focus, and it is on top of a rip stick as if it were riding it. As well I had a wheel from a skateboard in the bottom left corner. The project asked for an element of surprise so I went for a stone bunny because I didn’t think anyone would expect to see one in this project let alone riding a rip stick. I chose this angle because I really wanted the bunny to be in one of the critical points for the rule of thirds. In addition I wanted the photo to feel dusty and dirty which is why the bunny is all covered in dirt as if it was just playing in the dirt which is the background. The skateboard wheel that is bright pink I threw in for a brighter happier feeling to try and bring across the idea of playing and happiness, as well it was another wheel to fulfil the wheel requirement.

For the editing process I used a lot of the techniques that we learned about in class. I tried to apply as many as I could in the short time I had to edit it. For example when I was first editing it in raw I used the daylight adjustment to readjust the colors as it was shot during daytime. As well I wanted more of the darker colors and lighter colors to have more contrast so I increased the lights and darkened the darks. I did that as well with the shadows and the highlights. The main thing that I wanted to change from the original photo was the wheel of the rip stick, it was very dirty and disgusting and I wanted it to be a warm brighter color that popped more so I selected it and made and adjustment layer to raise the saturation levels. In addition I wanted to make the background contrast more with the bunny so I made the background a little darker to make the bunny pop more. To do these things I had to use a lot of the things we learned about making selections as well as using multiple layers and adjustment layers.
