Untitled: A Junior Conceptual Transport Project by Katherine Bousse (2017)

Our assignment for the was to take several pictures of transportation devices without motors, including the wheel of the object, and choose the best one to edit in Photoshop. The object I chose for my project was a roller blade. I choose the roller blade because it seemed interesting and unique. I placed it on the edge of my driveway, with flower bushes in the background and flowers scattered on the ground. I liked the pink flowers that contrasted with the black driveway, and how those and the bushes made the photo more more colorful. It was sunny outside, but I was in the shade, so the photo wasn’t overly bright. I placed the rollerblade upside down, and pointed the wheels towards the bush to act as a leading line towards the bush and flowers. The first one was in focus, and the rest weren’t, which really emphasized the importance of the wheel.

During class, we learned how to edit pictures in Adobe Photoshop. We learned how to change things like brightness, saturation, and other adjustments to improve our photographs. Also, how to select and made adjustment and masking layers, as well as tools like the Pen tool. For my photo, I first changed the brightness and saturation slightly to make the colors, especially the pink of the flowers, more vibrant. Then, I cropped out the bottom of the photo slightly, to get rid off a small orange dot on the rollerblade. I used Adobe Photoshop to bring out the color in my photo and make it less flat.
