Horse Race: A Junior Conceptual Transport Project by Talar Sarkissian (2017)

The object in my photograph is a rustic old fashioned wooden wheel that supports a large statue of a horse decorated in neutral toned paints. The placement of the object is outdoors allowing a lot of natural light and some shadows to play a role in the image. By taking the photo from the same height as the wheel, the viewer is able to see with more detail the paint and age the wheel holds. This object not only was an interesting subject to photograph but also demonstrates how far the world has come with the simple invention of the wheel. Starting with two pieces of wood and a nail to the advanced rubber wheels we see on cars, bikes, and other modern day objects.

After adjusting light and saturation I began the photoshop process. I learned a lot more about the basics of photoshop and how I personally like my preferences and tools to be arranged. When it came to the actual editing I selected the top left corner that was the red base of the statue and lessened the saturation so the viewers eye focused more on the wheel than the background. I also blurred out some of the ground in the photograph as well as added in more shadowing so the natural tones of the wheel were more prominent.
