Do You Wish To Buy Some Magic?: A Junior Narrative Illustration by Marina Sigunova (2018)

A charlatan running a shop with fake magical items sets up the store and works the day as usual fooling people into buying junk. Near the end of the day as it gets darker outside and the crowd in the shopping district dissolves, a strange visitor walks into the store. The strange person ignores his antics and just quickly picks out an object from a shelf that, after paying closer attention to it, appears to be a real magical artifact.

The illustration was created in Adobe Illustrator, a program I am not necessarily familiar with nor particularly like, however, I am fairly satisfied with the end result. I decided to make the background mushroom-themed to differentiate between the background design used in this project and the one I used in my animation project based on the same story. The mushrooms were difficult to make as they are overlapping each other but very rewarding. The animal choices for the mix were superb fairywren (bird,) European natrix (snake) and mirror spider all centered around the theme of deception and fooling either prey or predators of the species.
