Rust: A Senior Listener Lyric Photographic Diptych by Sebastian Sanchez (2017)

This piece is to reflect the feeling of being pushed towards the goals you want to achieve in an unhealthy way. The character represents a friend of mine who immigrated from china at a young age. He was very passionate about school and wanted to excel in his classes. This motivation he had was slowly taken away when he realized the stereotypes against where he came from. He was expected to be amazing at everything, and he wanted to be. His motivation slowly died and instead of “I want to be” it became “I’m supposed to be.”
