My lyrical essay represents someone who moved from the south to California and how that affected them entering the LGBTQ+ community.
I chose the photo of the people in the sailboat because it fits with my ongoing metaphor of the ocean versus land in my lyrical essay. The ocean represents the culture of California and land represents the culture that she was raised in. The people in the sailboat are having fun together out on the lake, not wanting to go back.
To edit my photo, I created a mask on the background that made it black and white. Then, I selected the sailboat and adjusted the colors to my liking. To create the text, I rasterized each word to make it a shape and then I warped the words individually to customize them.
