The Weeknd “After Hours” Tour Flyer: A Junior One Page Flyer by Saumeya Suseenthiran (2020)

The Weeknd is one of my favorite artists and his music has always had an emotional effect on me depending on what song I’m listening to. He is dropping an album soon, and I wanted to create a work of art that could commemorate that album. The album’s aesthetic so far is one that I really love with its color scheme of red and yellow, and the unique and distinct lighting effects that the album’s single covers as well as promo videos have taken on. The Weeknd’s work has always held a special place in my heart and I enjoyed creating this flyer for his upcoming tour and I think this was a very valuable learning experience.

I started off by finding a font that matched the one’s he was using for his single album covers and downloading that font into InDesign. I then found a portrait photo from the photoshoot he had, for his album covers and took the photo to Photoshop. I added a “curves” layer and then placed a rectangle on top of the photo. I then made a gradient from black to transparent in that rectangle and set the opacity to different percentages depending on where text was going to be overlaid on top of the photo. The black is meant to darken the photo so that the text can stand out appropriately against it. I then added the title, and found his actual tour dates and lined them up to my liking. I then went to Apple Music and transcribed his album’s Editors Note and put it below my title. I valued the process entirely because it taught me how to research and use my research to create as well as combine two Adobe techniques, two things I’m most proud of in this piece. Related website
