A Thousand Words: A Senior Movie Poster by Ari Soewarso-Rivera (2020)

David is a young adult who is hired as a caretaker for Walter, an elderly man with alzheimer's disease. Fresh out of college, David is struggling to understand who he is under the pressure of the real world. One day, while David cleans the attic, he uncovers several photographs of a younger Walter. After showing these photographs to his boss, David is roped into a story about loyalty, maturity, and long-lasting friendship. The poster is an amalgamation of several photographs throughout the film. I took the pictures on an analog camera to invoke a feeling of nostalgia. They were then printed and put together in a collage to be scanned. Finally, I used Adobe Illustrator to add the title, credit block, and logos.

The concept for my poster was inspired by Brazilian artist Lucas Simões. His contemporary piece Quem Brinca com Fuego was a large influence in my movie poster. Simões manipulated photographs by burning through them, creating a feeling of loss through rugged textures and muted colors. His piece inspired me to use film photography as a means to communicate the imperfections of fading memories. Related website
