Las Dos Mundos: A Senior Movie Poster by Bija Haxhicani (2020)

This movie poster was created based off a story I wrote which is a drama, thriller and romance all in one. My story revolves around a man and woman who are madly in love testing their relationships’ limits by traveling to another country. Eventually they wanted to enjoy one of their last days boating on a beautiful lake that the locals had told them about. As they are rowing the boat into the middle of the lake, something makes the boat tremble and causes the man to fall into the water. As he tries to reach up to the surface, he can’t seem to find it. He instead finds himself in a reverse world of all that existed. This world is filled with mysterious creatures that are trying to kill him. Eventually his girlfriend falls into the lake to try to save him yet, she can’t find him and spends her time traveling throughout the entire city in the reversed world looking for him. Towards the end, they find one another and try to escape. The scene I illustrated in the movie poster was when the couple were in the middle of the lake and what surrounds them is the beauty of the area they are in. While this is occurring, beneath them are various scary sea creatures and the boat reflected among the water. I used the application Adobe Illustrator to complete my poster.

Aside from the story I developed to create my movie poster, I also had an artist that influenced it. My artist was Frida Kahlo who is a Mexican surrealist artist born on July 6, 1907. Ever since I was little, my mother constantly exposed me to the art of Frida and allowed me to appreciate the meanings behind a variety of her work. While it is very different, I found myself always being drawn to Frida’s work because it was abstract and filled with various techniques and bright colors that contrasted one another and allowed for a beautiful message to be conveyed. Often many of Frida’s work followed the movement of feminism which at the time wasn’t popular and I found that to be inspiring. In my movie poster, I attempted to incorporate Frida’s influence by having bright colors at the top in contrast to the darker colors at the bottom. I also included bright red flowers which are a signature to the look of Frida Kahlo in many of her self-portraits. Related website
