La Lutte De La Vie: A Senior Listener Lyric Photographic Diptych by Jessica Angeles (2019)

My lyrical essay “La Lutte” is about a girl who had to go through her life being discriminated over her financial status.

The photo that I chose is a woman with her arms across her body, while she looks to her side. Her body language shows discomfort, since she is embracing herself. She is walking alone in a large area making her seem like she feels out of place. It demonstrates the essential of my phrase because she’s looking around to other people as if she is feeling judged.

The techniques I use to edit the photo is using a gradient map to make the picture have a more dramatic black and white colour scheme. The font I chose to use is DIN Condensed. I chose it because the spacing between the letters is small, and making the font bold as well makes it look more dramatic. Making the font bigger made the silhouette of the woman seem more lonesome. While rasterizing text and warping it to my desired shape within Photoshop, I made sure that the text looks close and really condensed. Having this effect gives the dark silhouette a more lonesome look. Related website
