For this project, I was inspired by Japanese traditions and folklore, and decided to illustrate a girl in a happi turning into a ghost girl. I wanted to include details in the outfit with meaning within Japanese culture, such as how the front of the happi/yukata closes, with living people wrapping them left over right, and the dead wrapping them right over left.
As this was one of the first on-paper animation projects I had worked on, I had some difficulty conveying the exact movement that I wanted to happen, especially since large changes to the animation were hard to make. If I were to do this project again, I would make the movement more dynamic and the change between characters more dramatic, as I feel that that would add to the appeal of the animation as well as take full advantage of the medium.
