Fruit Medley: A Senior Surreal Photo by Daniela Shapiro (2020)

In this piece, I was inspired by renaissance artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo's fruit surrealism portraits, and wanted to combine that style with some of the more prominent forms of art. I wanted to explore how some everyday objects, such as apples, can serve as incredible canvases to display art- whether that be digitally or manually. Because apples have such malleable shapes and the adequate color, I chose this fruit to sculpt some well-known Greek sculptures, deciding to include the torso of Venus de Milo by Alexandros of Antioch and the Fragmentary colossal head of a youth. Through this intersection of time period, art styles, and mediums, I was able to create a really unique piece that resulted in a bizzare and mind-bending experience for the viewer. This project was so much fun and truly stretched my creativity! Related website
