Space Plains: A Senior Surreal Photo by Joshua Ichiriu (2020)

During the creation of the Surreal project, I let my mind wander and explore putting unrelated objects together to create a piece of art. During the beginning of the process, I was struggling to get ideas for my project but after exploring the projects of former freestyle students, I was hit with inspiration and wanted to set my setting out in space. The objects in this drawing are salt pans, space, the moon, the sun, murder hornets, a lion head, a mountain, the skyline of a city, trees, and lastly a biohazard sign. I put together many more images because I wanted to let my creativity flow and create an image with a multitude of images. I used the blend modes and many of the strategies we learned during the photoshop compositing unit to create my art. Now that I have finished the project, I can tell that my sense for art has changed. I used to think art was loosely confined, and that there was still a definition of good art and bad art, but now that I have completed the project I realized that art is art and you can’t change what others perceive are art. I am proud of my ability to use the photoshop skill and create a piece of art, and I am glad with the way this project turned out. Related website
