Vaporwave: A Senior Surreal Photo by Anna Majorek (2020)

I don't have a message in my surreal project, but I wanted to make something weird yet aesthetically pleasing, hence a skull and laser vaporwave-like eye lasers. I really enjoyed using blend modes in my piece because it takes the beach and ocean to another level, easily letting me achieve the look of a glassy galaxy ocean that I wanted. I struggled with trying to make the skull blend into it's surroundings, as the color of it was vastly different in the beginning and it looked completely out of space. I used gradient maps and blend modes to overcome this challenge and made the skull blend into its surroundings to the best of my ability. For next time, I want to try to make an art piece that uses photos and the techniques I learned from this project and apply them to make something that looks like digital art without it being noticeable that I used photos. Now that I look at other's art, I tend to notice a lot more when they used photos instead of straight up drawing which I find interesting. Related website
